About Us

Started in 2014 as part of a Farm to Table class, the garden at the Linworth Experiential Program has evolved over a number of years thanks to the support of a dedicated team of teachers, students, alumni, volunteers and community partners.

Monica Shaner, an educator, garden enthusiast, and Linworth parent, volunteered to manage the Linworth School Community Garden in the fall of 2022. Monica coordinates the general upkeep of the space and supports both curricular and co-curricular use of the garden. In addition, she facilitates Phyte Club, a student-led service organization dedicated to providing fresh produce for The Worthington Resource Pantry and improving the environment. (Phyte is short for Phytology-- the study of plants, botany.)

In 2023, Linworth School Community Garden partnered with the Worthington Farmers Market to expand the hands-on learning opportunities in the garden. Thanks to a grant awarded to the Worthington Farmers Market by the Harding-Buller Foundation of Worthington, the Linworth School Community Garden was able to expand the garden curriculum, strengthen the student service program, and develop partnerships throughout the community. This collaboration continues to work to provide healthy produce for all members of our community and to support the educational goals of the Linworth Experiential Program.
