The Linworth School Community Garden is a living laboratory and community service organization located on the Linworth Alternative School campus in Worthington, Ohio. We support the Linworth Experiential Program by providing hands-on opportunities to learn about agricultural, ecological, entrepreneurial, and wellness concepts. In addition, we provide a setting for students to develop soft skills in the areas of leadership, confidence, perseverance, community building, and personal responsibility.

Phyte Club Mission Statement: Linworth School Community Garden is an ongoing community service project carried out by students at Linworth EP High School to raise fresh food for the Worthington Resource Pantry, explore sustainable land stewardship practices, and to develop health and wellness in ourselves and our community.

Weekly Update April 28

It was a great week in the garden this week! We started planting in the pollinator bed, pinched peppers and tomatoes, constructed the arbor and are desperately trying to get our seedlings to get big for the start of plant sale season. Next week we will start selling our native plants. We will continue to sell at the plug size price (3 for $5.00) until our plants grow to large enough that we have to move them up from plug size to plant size. Those will sell for $5.00 apiece. We will also work on our irrigations system, plant our sweet potatoes and sunchokes, prep the cucumber bed, finish starting the warm season seeds, finish installing the final arbor, and harvest our worm castings.  Phyte Club meets on Mondays after school until 4:30. Everyone is welcome! Come and Join Us!

Weekly Update April 21

It was a great week in the garden this week! So much is still happening! We finished the initial phase of the deer fencing for the fruit area, cleaned up the garden for spring, moved seedlings to plug trays, prepared the lupine barrel and trimmed up the grass and weeds. Next week, we will prepare for the native plant sale, start spring seeds, plant sweet potatoes, pinch tomatoes and maybe even build the last arbor. Phyte Club meets on Mondays after school until 4:30. Everyone is welcome! Come and Join Us!

Weekly Update March 10

It was a great week in the garden this week! We finished our row cover and even started plants under it! We cared for our seedlings under the grow lights, cared for our worms, and moved our bulletin board. We also started a new project—Trash Talk—which is an art project to educate people about sustainable waste management. On Monday we will continue seed starting, work on preparing the garden for spring, do some site preparation for Interim projects, and continue Trash Talking. Phyte Club meets on Mondays after school until 4:30. Everyone is welcome. Please join us!

Garden Update Feb 23

It was a great week in the garden this week! There was no Phyte Club due to the holiday, but Flora and Fauna got our cool season crops started and set up under the grow lights. Our native plants are beginning to sprout and we got our check from the Harding-Buller Foundation of Worthington. Thanks to their generosity, we will be updating the Linworth Labyrinth to enhance its beauty and expand its ability to support student emotional regulation and coping skill development. Next week Phyte Club will meet and will do a group photo shoot. The weather looks great, so I expect we will be able to do some work outside as well. Phyte Club meets on Mondays after school until 4:30. Everyone is welcome. Please join us!
